WELL, thanks to your posting both dmesg's (yay!), I saved myself the embarassment of saying soemthing wrong 8-), but my idea still has some possibility: How about disabling pciide in ukc> ? This would force the system to fall back on the non-DMA, dull and boring wdc driver (which is what I was guessing 2.7 was using -- I was wrong)... You would take a performance hit, but on a flash device, I doubt it could be measured, much less felt...

and "disable pciide", see if that changes anything...

Might also wish to check the archives, there have been people mentioning problems booting off flash in the past...
