SIIG SCSI card switch-a-roo

I have a couple of boxen happily running OpenBSD with SCSI-2 adapters from SIIG, their AP-10 SCSI Pro card. On boot, these cards are probed as follows:

   adv0 at pci1 dev 11 function 0 "Advansys ABP-930/40UA" rev 0x03: irq 9

So, today I go to Fry's to buy some components to build a new box, and I buy the same SIIG card. Well, lo and behold, when I install it and boot up my new machine, now I'm getting something altogether different:

"Acard AEC6712U SCSI" rev 0x08 at pci0 dev 11 function 0 not configured

As luck would have it, OpenBSD does not recognize my SCSI tape drive.

I'm afraid this means I've been bitten my bad assumption that SIIG would continue to use the same chipsets. I suppose I should know better, because apparently this happens all the time with NIC manfacturers.

To add to my dismay, I don't see this Acard mentioned on the hardware compatibility list at <http://www.openbsd.org/i386.html>.

So, am I hosed here? Any chance of any hardware support soon for this puppy?

Do you need help?X

Many thanks in advance. Received on Fri Nov 29 22:32:33 2002
