NFS tuning tips???

I'm just checking on whether I should give up on NFS for copying large files across my LAN. I've read a couple of e-mails in the archives that pretty much say that using NFS for large file transfers is a waste of time.

Mac G4 with OEM en0 network card, OS 10.2.2: mount_nfs -P -s oats:/home/backups

Athlon 1800+ with crappy sis0 card, OpenBSD 3.2-stable: portmap started without any flags
nfsd -tun 4
mountd started without any flags

There is a Netgear hub between the two with no other devices on it at the moment.

Using scp on an 18.7 MB file takes 3 seconds, nice performance. Using nfs the same file takes 1 minute, 15 seconds. I see tons of collisions:

ethant@oats:/home/ethant$ netstat -i
Name Mtu Network Address Ipkts Ierrs Opkts Oerrs Colls
sis0 1500 <DEFANGED_Link> 02:29:02:50:80:00 3885953 0 2046574

   0 799682

The Athlon only has 2 pci slots and they are filled with a wi0 and siop0. But considering the good performance with scp and ftp is the problem really with the network card or NFS?

Do you need help?X
