kernel options.

In order to boot OpenBSD 3.2 for sparc 64 I need to do something similar to: config netbsd root on wd0a type ffs dumps on wd0b in the kernel. The thing is.. after OpenBSD is installed, it will die with an error 79 stating that there is no root on wd0h (the root is really on wd0a) and drop me to ddb. I was able to boot into NetBSD 1.6 since the bootup process will ask me for a partition to find root on, and continue to boot into the OS. I am then able to add the previous config line and recompile the kernel. Then all boots well. On the OpenBSD side, I cannot get into the OS, so I cannot recompile the kernel. How can I change the root partition? I know this may be an odd or stupid question, but can I compile the OpenBSD kernel in NetBSD, then reinstall OpenBSD, and use the custom kernel?
Thanks,
