I suggest that you go to a computer library and buy a introduction book to C programming for Unix.

exec and fork are very basic Unix concept.

Also, reading man page is implicated when programming in C on any Unix systems.

The FIRST sentence in the exec man page is:

        The exec family of functions replace the current process
        image with a new process image

What part of "replacing" you don't understand.
