Even though Henning Brauer has already answered, I'm going to flame you a little.

Have you tried the obvious, like typing `man FD_SET' ? In the bug section, it does explain precisely where this limit comes from, and the many ways to override it, including what Henning suggested.

I really have trouble calling such a thing `hidden'.

On a minor note, I'm not too surprised that DJB wouldn't be bothered to handle this. He probably considers it's yet another braindeadness of OpenBSD, and enjoying his stay in Fantasy-Land Unix that does not need to conform to POSIX/Single Unix/whatever. Received on Tue Dec 17 13:38:55 2002
