I'm a fan of PostgreSQL because of it's support for foreign keys, triggers, PL/SQL and it's adherence to SQL standards all of which are not available with MySQL. PostgreSQL is a very good database, many even compare it to Oracle. All that said PHP+MySQL is the most common solution you'll run into and you will probably find more documentation/How-To on it. In any case it's your decision. Just so you know though the .org TLD has recently been moved to a PostgreSQL database.
