I mentioned that the grep and cut should probably be tweaked on a case-by-case basis. Add an extra grep for 'cpu0' .. i dont know.

This isn't very machine independant, I know, my alpha says : Digital Personal WorkStation 600au, 598MHz

So here a "grep MHz | cut -f5 -d' ' | cut -f1 -d'M'" would be in order. A sysctl would be usefull for an architecture independant solution, but this doesn't exist (yet). This kludge appears to me as a working solution.
