Re: apsfilter

I am running obsd 3.2 -stable on a Dell Latitude laptop.

Installed ghostscript-7.00, ghostview-1.5 and samba-2.2.7 from ports; apsfilter-7.2.5.tar.gz from apsfilter.org. rc.conf was edited so that lpd starts automatically.

I believe apsfilter was installed successfully since I can print test page to a shared HP4500n Color Laserjet printer over the network and have the following in my /etc/printcap :-
#APS1_BEGIN:printer1
lp|clj5c;r=300x300;q=medium;c=full;p=letter;m=auto:\
:af=/var/spool/lpd/lp/acct:\
:if =/usr/local/etc/apsfilter/basdir/bin/apsfilter\
:lf =/var/spool/lpd/lp/log:\
:lp=/dev/null:\
:mx#0:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\
#APS1_END - don't delete this

But when tried to print document with
#lpr filename.whatever

Got error message :-
lpr: cannot open /var/spool/lpd/lp .seq: Permission denied

The FAQ on apsfilter.org says this is either because of lpd permissions or non-matching user/group ID settings and suggests to use LPRng.

Well, the ports tells me that "LPRng-3.7.4 is marked broken; outdated & with possible security holes".

I have googled for hours and still at a lost as what have I done wrong and how to resolve the problem. Would appreciate if someone can enlighten a newbie. Thanks.

Do you need help?X
