DARPA Grant Cancellation Research

I've got a small request of your office.

I just found out that a grant DARPA had given to UPenn, which was in turn given to the OpenBSD (www.openbsd.org) operating system development team, was pulled today with no warning, with much time and unspent money left. While people on the group mailing list suspect everything from a backlash against the project leader's anti-war comments (http://www.globetechnology.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20030406.whack46/GTStory ), to lobbying from Microsoft, obviously no one really knows.

Since this development team was doing a great deal of good in the world of cybersecurity, I was quite disheartened to see the grant disappear. I'd like to help put an end to the speculation as to why the funding was pulled, too

  • if for no other reason than to quiet government conspiracy types (if they're wrong).

Would it be possible for your office to contact DARPA and find out why this grant was pulled so suddenly?

Thank You,
