Patch question: how are normal patches created?
From: C. Bensend <benny(at)bennyvision.com>
Date: Sun Nov 10 2002 - 04:05:31 EST Hey folks, I'm buzzing right along on the Nagios port, and I think I'm just about there. I'm running into a snag with the patches directory, however. I've gone through bsd.port.mk, the ports@ archives, and Google, and I think I'm missing a bit of "tribal knowledge". I have two patches I'd like to apply. I created the patches by: diff -u original-file modified-file I then renamed them to "patch-whatever", and placed them in the patches directory. However, when I go through a test run of 'make' in my port directory, it asks for the file to patch. Obviously, I'm either not creating the patch correctly, or I'm not naming it correctly in the patches/ directory. My question: What is the _correct_ way to generate the patches for a port, and is there a more correct way to name them in the patches/ directory, other than "patch-mypatchhere"? Thanks, folks, I really appreciate all the help you've given! Benny There's always time for Cheerios...
