I'll assume you're using i386. From /usr/ports/x11/mplayer/pkg/DESCR:

MPlayer might fail due to lack of shared memory, eg when using gui mode under KDE. You can use config to change the shared memory limits without needing to recompile the kernel, e.g., "config -e -o bsd2 bsd". On i386 it should be sufficient to add 8 to shmseg and 2048 to shmmaxpgs.

On i386 these start out as:

shmseg = 8
shmmaxpgs = 2048

So just change these to

shmseg = 16
shmmaxpgs = 4096

Do you need help?X

You didn't change shmseg. These two are all you should have to change.

option USER_LDT
also helps with some codecs.
