A WAV file with PCM encoded sound in it. AFAIK the WAV Format may also contain non signed linear PCM (u-law or similar) encoded sound. Raw PCM can be used if the needed info (rate, sample size and number of channels) are specified via the commandline arguments (-P ...) Anyway the data that is encoded should not cause faults even if it is wrong encoded. The output will be noise but that should be clear.
