Thanks for the comments, Marc,

The ports team seems to have made quite a bit of progress over the last few years. Of course that makes the final steps to have it work even better still more compelling!

This is the confirmation that I was looking for. I think it deserves a mention in the section entitled:

Ports and Packages Update for an OpenBSD Release

of

http://www.openbsd.org/ports.html

(with all the necessary caveats, of course).

And that furthermore that section should be referenced

by the FAQ in :

4.3 - Starting the Install

BTW, it might be nice if the sections of the ports.html file were numbered in the same style as the FAQ is.

Although the (U)pgrade option at CD install time is problematic in a some respects. I think that the more we can make "upgrading" a viable process the the more often folks will actually upgrade their versions. Ultimately this would benefit security in general, and it would help CD sales too.

Anyway, if you agree that it's not too early to mention your observation of how to manage ports/packages after upgrade, then I could propose diffs for the ports.html and faq4.html documents. (Unless you would like to do that.)
