GD package problem - freetype dependency

Newby alert.

I've a problem with the GD package.
Situation: fresh install of i386 3.2, no X. Need to use GD from perl.
Got GD from the ports binary page on openbsd.org, discovered it has dependencies.
In the end I installed:

jpeg-6b            IJG's JPEG compression utilities
freetype-1.3.1     free and portable TrueType font rendering engine
png-1.2.4          library for manipulating PNG images
gd-1.8.3           graphics library for fast PNG creation

However:
#perl -e "use GD"
/usr/libexec/ld.so: perl: libfreetype.so.8.0: No such file or directory

In fact:
#pkg_info -L freetype-1.3.1

Any suggestions ?
