I've checked back and it was a reply yo another message as you guessed and was addressed to Anil (anil@recoil.org) and cc'd to ports. It was just for gd and didn't include changed to the freetype 2 port the compile may well fail on a machine without XF4 due to the lack of /usr/X11R6/include/freetype2
