Again: maildrop 1.4.0 on Sparc64

In november 2002 there has been a thread about maildrop 1.4.0 not running on Sparc64. A solution to the problem has never been posted, so I wanted to ask if someone has a clue what could be the reason? maildrop still aborts with signal 6 on Sparc 64 -current.
