the best thing you can do is to contact the authors and attempt to have them clarify the situation explicitely. i think it was you who has worked exhaustively with the netatalk developers to deal with a bunch of issues, and i commend you (and thank you) for that.

its been my experience that when requested, most developers will clarify their license situations. in this case its not just an unclea situation, but one that probably violates a host of copyrights.
