The main use of setting HOME like this is to identify ports that actually look inside your usual environment, and use it for the build.

This makes for non reproducible builds. We don't want ports to use, say, your current set of qt preferences.

The specific value has been chosen so as to identify such ports quickly, so that one can look further into the problem.
