GNOME setting daemon failing to execute
From: n a <qlistemail10203(at)yahoo.com>
Date: Thu Oct 02 2003 - 23:52:03 EDT Using XDM, I logging in and the GNOME splash loaded and an error was produced. "The settings Daemon restarted too many times. The last error message was: Failed to execute gnome-settings-daemon: 9 (no such file or directory) GNOME will try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in." .xsession-errors output: "SESSION_MANAGER=local/puffy.someplace.com:/tmp/.ICE-unix/30328 Loaded background '0x111f00 Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1 Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1 Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1 Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1" No errors found in .xdm-errors Anyone know a fix for this?
#!/bin/sh
(apparently, xdm was unable to locate gnome-sessions. Adding the path resolved that problem.) Thanks. Zvezdan Petkovic <zvezdan@CS.WM.EDU> wrote:

3. Save the file and exit the editor
chmod a+rx .xsession 5. FWIW, the default window manager is not bad at all if you know how to customise it. But go ahead and enjoy the speed of Gnome.
