There are two places to change it, iirc... in if_addrlist and in arpcom. If the interface is already up, it must be brought down and back up again. (This assumes a "normal" ethernet driver that doesn't read the eeprom in *_init()). With those changes, I had a hack that worked well at my previous employer.
