I have got this working with the help of henric@

For those who are curious, you need to change it in a number of places:

1 - An appropriately sized entry in /etc/disktab E.g.

rdroot-8192|ramdiskroot-8192|RAM-disk root FS image 8192 sectors:\

         :ty=ramdisk:se#512:nt#2:rm#300:ns#8:nc#1024:\
         :pa#8192:oa#0:ta=4.2BSD:ba#4096:fa#1024:\
         :pb#0:ob#0:tb=swap:\
         :pc#8192:oc#0:
Do you need help?X

2 - Entries for the size (NBLKS=8192) and disktab entry name (DISKTYPE=ramdisk-8192) in the distrib Makefile

3 - MINIROOTSIZE=8192 All of these must match. My problem was that I had stuffed up the disktab entry.
