I say this every time that this question comes up, but I guess that I will say it again... Are you personally re-using this drive? If you are, then there is no real need to run any type of 'secure' removal scheme, it is too time consuming when the data can reportedly be recovered anyway....

If this is a drive that you are getting rid of, then destroy the drive platters. Take a hammer to them and break them up into tiny little pieces. Have someone grind them into dust, or have them incinerated. Or use a blow torch and make them into modern art, and hang them on your wall as some have been said to do.

This is a matter of economics.
