3.3 panic

From: Craig Metz <cmetz(at)inner.net>

  I have a mail server running 3.3/i386 that is experiencing very heavy load (thanks, spammers!). I suspect but cannot confirm that the server is running out of VM. When things get too heavy, I get a DDB prompt with the following panic:

panic: kernel diagnostic assertion "uvmexp.swpgonly <= uvmexp.swpages" failed: file "/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/GENERIC/../../../../uvm/uvm_pdaemon.c", line 581

  And an admonition to run trace and ps.

trace says: (hex addresses ommitted since I was hand copying)
_Debugger(...)
_panic(...)
___assert(...)
_uvm_aiodone_daemon(...)
_uvm_aiodone_daemon(...)
_uvm_pageout(...)

Bad frame pointer: ...

  and ps shows a very busy system, lots of processes.

  Is this a known problem? If not, not being knowledgeable on UVM, what can I do to help debug this?
