CF not attached during boot?

Hello all I am using a ide-cf adapter and I am looking for way to use a Compact Flash even if it's not attached during boot?

Reading on the faq I found that this is possible for floppy drives by specifying 0x20 flag on the device configuration, however I didn't found the equivalent flag settings for IDE drives.

Is there an alternative way to handle IDE removable drives like a CF?
