DBA / Developer - Postgres

Our client is seeking a DBA/ Developer who wants to make the most out of their skill and ability in a fast-paced, technology driven atmosphere. Ideal experience crosses boundaries of development, system design, database design, performance optimization, and overall care and feeding of world class systems/databases.

Responsibilities:
* Provide database development and support to Software Engineers individual
and team projects
* Perform database administration, schema changes, maintenance,
performance tuning, profiling, backup/recovery and replication for PostgreSQL DB's
* Build database tools, script and automate everything possible (Python,
Perl, PHP, etc.)
* Create test and production databases

Work with software engineers and other departments to ensure the overall application design is optimal
Performance data modeling, schema design and query reviews
Interface with network, hardware and system operations teams to resolve problems with application/database systems.

Qualifications:
* Exposure to tiered database or MPP (massively parallel processing) design
and implementation a strong plus
* Extensive knowledge of PostgreSQL (or willingness to develop expert
knowledge), Oracle, Sybase, DB2
* Expert knowledge of database concepts and fundamentals

Experience with archiving large volumes of data
Strong understanding of Unix/Linux system administration, hardware, including memory and storage management
Motivated self-learner, good problem solving skills
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Experience in a high availability/real time environment
BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
