RE: GroupWise vs Exchange
Run Exchange 2000 (ADS mode) and Exchange 5.5 (non ADS mode) without any
virus issues. Average 7,000 - 9,000 emails each day. One Exchange server
acts as SMTP bridgehead to upstream SMTP gateway.
SMTP Gateway server incorporates NetIQ MailMarshall SMTP server
http://www.mailmarshall.com;
AV control
Spam Block (blocks thousands of spams daily)
Attachment and content scan/control (*.bat; *.chm; *.cmd; *.com; *.pif;
*.hlp; *.hta; *.inf; *.ins; *.js; *.jse; *.lnk; *.reg; *.sct; *.shs;
*.vb; *.vbe; *.vbe; *.vbs; *.wsc; *.wsf; *.wsh) well known virus
carriers
Anti-virus control is managed by Norman Virus Control (NVC)

Norman AV Software on Exchange servers.
Norman AV Software on a W2K SMTP gateway.
Norman AV Software on Servers
Norman AV Software on the Workstations
Norman AV Software engineers work and live in Norway. Time sensitive
payloads are uncovered 8-9 hours before US Central time (my location).
Automatic patch updates are provided to my Norman AV server from Norway
immediately, over the Internet.
Not only does Norman scale to catch everything tossed out in the wild
since the "I LOVE YOU" virus 3 years ago (we didn't use Norman then), it
is painless and automatic AV management.

I will see if I can dig up our report. My boss had asked me this
question
and I found facts on both Novell and M$'s site. In 6 years, we have yet
to
see a virus hit our GroupWise system [knock on wood]. The down of
GroupWise
is slim to none compared to that of Exchange. The fact that GroupWise
connects only to GroupWise servers [and not public pop3 accounts] has
had
quite the bonus by users not contaminating their GroupWise accounts.
There
are numbers on both Novell's and M$'s sites that would be useful to you
but
I will see what I can Dig Up.
