You could check the IPs in the email header and notify the ISP of the victims.

McAfee and also F-Secure know what Symantec calls "W32.HLLW.Cult.C@mm". But only Symantec seems to call it a worm, other av scanners report it as a trojan. The following anti virus scanners detect the trojan as ...:

    Dialogue Science DrWebWCL : BackDoor.IRC.Sdbot.based
    Frisk Software F-PROT : W32/SDbot.H
    GeCAD RAVAV : Backdoor:Win32/SdBot **
    Kaspersky Lab KAVDOS32 : Backdoor.SdBot.gen
    McAfee SCANPM : IRC-Sdbot trojan
Symantec NAV CE VSCAND : W32.HLLW.Cult.C@mm
  • heuristically

McAfee's description of the malware can be found here: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99410.htm

To me it looks like the trojan is a mix between the SdBot IRC trojan and the Cult worm. After execution it tries to connect IRC channels on irc.undernet.org and dragonx.hopto.org. The latter seems not to be available anymore, but when I joined the trojan channel on irc.undernet.org I counted 1338 victims there. Not exactly what I'd call "low wild" ... :/

The bot identifies itself as "Code-Blue Bots v1.0".

Do you need help?X

Axel Pettinger
