Re: Instructor Lead Computer Virus Training
Are you familiar with the courses given by Carnegie-Mellon in Pittsburgh,
PA? While I do not believe they have a course directed solely at viruses,
they do have courses dealing with computer security issues more generally,
for example, incident response. Considering the rate at which viruses
"evolve", a low-level instructor-led course that gets down to the
nitty-gritty technical details of specific, current, examples of malware
might be too much to ask for due to the time required to develop the
material. See if anything at: http://www.cert.org/nav/index_gold.html
is within your domain of interest.

Hi
I've had a page on the talisker website for some time attempting to detail
every known instructor lead vendor neutral anti virus training course
http://www.networkintrusion.co.uk/Cvirus.htm
Finding such courses is a nightmare with the amount of medical virus
courses
such as West Nile etc. This has been made worse lately with the advent of
SARS. I am calling upon the virus gurus for some assistance in
recommending
some anti-virus courses, also courses in how to recover from a virus
outbreak, what I have so far is:
Internet Worms & Viruses http://www.nsec.net/worms.html
Anti-Virus Workshop
http://www.sophos.co.uk/products/training/uk/practical.html
I attended this last year and whilst a little basic, it gives a good well
rounded introduction to the threats.
Computer Viruses and Malware
http://pages.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~aycock/599.48/
The ethics of a course that teaches it's students to write malware is
debatable but the virus writers are doing a good enough job these days
without the training therefore I really cannot see the harm, provided some
restrictions are placed on who can attend. The virus writing opposition
may
perhaps receive some fresh blood with some innovative ideas on how to
counter the threat. Being an advocate as I am of full disclosure and it
taking a thief to catch a thief perhaps I'm in the minority.
If I cannot get more than 10 different courses I will include vendor
specific courses, as I am currently looking to attend a few myself.
take care
