Matt, I'd be grateful if you would re-read my post to which you responded. I didn't suggest that education was the best prevention (that was an assertion made by someone called "Brad"), I merely said that I felt it was a useful measure, but by no means did I suggest that it was the be all and end all of tackling spam. Indeed, my response to Brad was to point out that education alone was not going to resolve the spam problem, that there needs to be legislative and technological measures as well. Individually none of these is likely to be effective on its own.

As far as training and the efforts involved, I think you've perhaps jumped the gun a bit as well. Again, I don't think "training" was the term used, rather the "education" of users, i.e. making them aware - through various means - of the threats that exist and importantly how to minimise the risks. It's not necessarily about sitting them down in a classroom and lecturing them, but more about little reminders on notice boards, staff intranet etc. etc. of the do's and don'ts of using the Internet and email.

I agree with your point about how staff/users won't necessarily follow the advice given, for whatever reason, and that is why I responded to Brad to say that I didn't think that education alone was the answer to combatting the spam problem.

Regards,

Mike
