     The GUID that used to be assigned to MS Word documents was removed with Office 2000. Also Office 97 could have a patch applied that would stop assigning the GUID as well.

Heard that too... never looked for it though. What you do have are the "author" and "organization" meta-data tags. They
will initialize to the username and company defined during the installation
(double check this, not quite sure about the username... think its the logged in user actually)
While not forensically sound they can help you out.
