New one on me. I have however come across a few cases where I'd find a series of files named 'prefix000.jpg', 'prefix001.jpg'... prefix035.jpg... etc for some value of 'prefix'. Running 'file' across the 001 through last would just get 'data'.

However, 'file prefix000.jpg' would report it as being a RealMedia file.

Sounds like somebody trying to bypass an RIAA/MPAA filter to me? Anybody seen/heard of this one?

Not sure where "repeating pattern" comes from, unless it's framing bytes for whatever compression/layering scheme may be in use inside the file...
