dropping packets

I sent this message a couple of weeks ago and haven't heard anything which is
unusal for this group, because people are so helpful, so I'm sending it out again just in case it never got to the list.

I am building an application that is using libnet libnids, libpcap/winpcap and having problems with packets dropping.

Some postings suggest increasing the kernel buffer size, how do I do this on Unix/Solaris and Windows? The machine I have access to will have over 1GB of memory for my application alone.

Any other suggestion? Are there other packages I should consider?

I need the ability to assemble and reassemble tcp packets.
