Actually, I don't think they need to kill the tree. They just need to rename the .h file and libraries that are installed to use the libnet2 name. (They can then safely install a config script.)

I never contested that. I'm just offering a suggestion, and I contributed a patch to show clearly what I was talking about.

Since the main user of libnet-1.1 in my group has ditched it in favor of libdnet (possibly because libdnet doesn't have this unresolved issue complicating installs), I no longer care as urgently about this. I do think the maintainer probably should do the renaming I proposed.
