18 byte frame? DIX Ethernet is a 14 byte frame encapsulation -- unless you're somehow capturing the 4 byte CRC trailer? Or you are capturing 802.1q tagged frames which is less likely... In any event, Ethernet's MTU is 1500 bytes so mind that limit when injecting using the link interface...
