However, it could be a good idea to add this kind of feature to libnet. what are the other parameters like these one that could be interesting ?

Concerning the MTU, there is an ioctl() to get the device's MTU (at least under linux and mac os x, the 2 system I have here) ... but ioctl() can't be considered as "portable" ;-/ That is why a wrapper could be very useful.
