Wireless MITM

Hey all--
Wondering if anyone had come across or implemeted a wireless MITM attack by impersonating an AP, manipulating traffic or capturing traffic, then passing it on? Any utils to just turn a linux laptop into an access point or does airtools work? Any feedback appreciated. Thanks,
