It is allegedly possible to translate bytes read at one parity to another parity after the fact. ToneLoc used to do something of the sort.

When I was trying to write a wardialler in Perl, I investigated such things, and found some code that claimed to implement this. You can find the original perl wardialler, and associated code on my page at http://home.intekom.co.za/rdawes/
