('binary' encoding is not supported, stored as-is)

Check out this new tool for changing MAC addresses on Windows 2000 & XP, for almost all Network Adapters out there! It doesn't change the hardware MAC address, just the MAC address that got interpreted by the network adapter drivers and Windows.

You can download it at:
http://www.klcconsulting.net/smac

  • Note: "00-00-00-00-00-00" is a NOT a valid MAC address for testing so it will not work. Try a MAC address that's couple numbers off from your TRUE MAC address for testing***

Quote from the release note:

Descriptions:

With SMAC, you can change the MAC address of almost any Network Interface Card (NIC) on Windows 2000 & XP systems, whether manufacturers allow this option or not.

We haven't seen a NIC that does not support changing MAC addresses on Windows 2000 and XP systems, not to say there is not any out there. If you find a NIC that doesn't support changing MAC addresses, we appreciate if you send us your findings at smac@klcconsulting.net.

SMAC is developed based on the research done by Kyle Lai, a KLC senior security consultant. Information is available at http://www.klcconsulting.net/Change_MAC_w2k.htm.

SMAC was designed originally as a security vulnerability testing tool for MAC address authorization and authentication systems, Intrusion Detection Systems, MAC address based software licenses testing tool. However, there are many other applications for SMAC.

When changing MAC address, make sure you assign MAC addresses according to IANA Number Assignments database. You can find the information at http://www.iana.org/assignments/ethernet-numbers. The latest MAC address Organization Unique Identifier (OUI) listing is available at http://standards.ieee.org/regauth/oui/oui.txt.

Please submit bug reports to us (smac@klcconsulting.net). This will help us create stronger products and help the community. Even though we are a commercial entity (KLC), we provide SMAC to the public at large as a freeware.

Do you need help?X

Cheers,
/Kyle
