Check the permissions of /var/log/lastlog (or whereever lastlog is located on your system). The most likely explination is that lastlog is not world-readable.

If lastlog is world readable, check the permissions on the directory it is in; they need to be at least world executable. Received on Sat Nov 9 00:54:56 2002
