If your X11 DISPLAY environment variable is set up when you log on as a regular user, then an "su" rather than an "su -" should keep that environment variable and permit it to be used. Of course, then you have the user's environment rather than root's with your root session, but that can be overridden by running the appropriate profile script for root. This has worked well for me in a mixed LINUX and Sun environment. RW
