Hi all,

I seem to be getting dangerously close to getting ssh to work on my windows systems. I just seem to be having a bit of trouble with the login process and making sure things are set up correctly to allow folks to login.

I have constructed the passwd file using mkpasswd. When I connect, I seem to have two problems.

  1. The client sees that the permissions on my .ssh directory are too open. (644) It says that's bad and then decides that it won't use it. I tried removing all ACLs other than myself from the .ssh directory using Explorer. That didn't change anything. I also tried chmod 700 .ssh, and that didn't work either. The permissions were still 644 after that. Could someone please let me know how to get that to change?
  2. Password authenticated logins are failing. Here's the debug log:
debug3: mm_request_receive entering
debug1: userauth-request for user tarekm service ssh-connection method none
debug1: attempt 1 failures 1
debug2: Unrecognized authentication method name: none

Does anyone have any ideas on why this is happening?
