address already in use

Hello all,

I am trying to tunnel some ports through SSH (with socksify).

I use a command like:
socksify ssh xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -L80:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80

The forwarding fails with the following messages: bind: Address already in use
channel_setup_fwd_listener: cannot listen to port: 80

According to netstat, port 80 is NOT in use (there is no webserver or something running on this machine)

It is executed with root permissions, so that can't be the problem either.

I thought maybe the ports don't get properly released which can't be shown with netstat, so I rebooted the machine to be sure, to no avail.

There are no inetd services running either.

Do you need help?X

I had this problem before on other machines, and kind off solved it using other portnumbers (although also there, these ports were not in use), but that's not an option here.

version info: OpenSSH_3.4p1

Any ideas ?

(Answers to jr@hauk-sasko.de because I'm not on the mailing list)
