OpenSSH and OpenSSL

Let's see if I understand this correctly, openssh and open ssl are completely different packages.
Openssh is for secure shell connections (scp, ssh and sftp), while openssl is a package to support for secure port connections for various system services.

Both have independent private/public key pairs and there is no way to consolidate both to use a single public/private key pair.

Also openssh uses self-signed public keys, I'm not sure if I can use a CA for signing a public key for openssh, entrust.com and others seem to mention a openssl signed public key but no mention of openssh support. If I could I'd like to consolidate the public/private key pairs.

I guess I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for any help.
