You are probably not in the 'wheel' group, and your
machine requires that you are in wheel before it will
let you su to root. See if any other users are in wheel
(grep wheel /etc/group) and if you can log in as one of
them and then su you should be OK.
You should also see if perhaps you have access to use
sudo (if installed) and perhaps can just 'sudo /bin/sh'.
Probably not though, unless you were set up as a very
trusted user.
Failing that, you need to go to the console of the machine
and log in as root there. Hopefully you know the password.
If not, you'll need to boot into single user mode, etc.
