There's an extra | between your ''.
I am aware of the possibility of compressing ssh traffic in any number
of ways. We have sufficient bandwidth so that compression only makes
things worse. Many of our computers are relatively old and slow, which
makes compression even more of a pain.
All of these tar/compression subtleties are totally irrelevant to
whether files over 2 GB can be transferred over scp1 on 32-bit
platforms. The real problem is that folks are not going to learn
any alternative solutions anyway so large file support for scp1
would be rather desirable.
