No like almost every service, you let your sshd listen on a different port. I know many people that let their sshd listen on port 2222 because the isp firewall blocks all ports <1024.
Nothing stops you from running a sshd on port 80 or whatever, as long as the port is not in use by another daemon (service).

That's the magic of packet analysing, I suggest your open a sniffer and a sshd and experiment a bit with it and you'll see the differences in the packets.
