Regarding the sftp logging patch: complaints, criticism, praise, etc.

I've had some complaints lately regarding the amount of advertising I'm doing for my sftp logging patch on this list. Also a couple of people have written expressing criticism of the algorithm I used to implement the patch. And that I have not responded to this criticism. As for the quantity of advertising, let me say that I have not thought that it was exorbant, I thought I only advertised it a couple times in the past couple weeks. I do this because I receive inquiries on a regular basis from people wanting to know how to download and install the patch. ... However, if the list moderators think it's too much, I'll tone it down. As for Ben Linstrom's critique of my patch, I have not seen it. If someone would send it to me, or re-post it, then I will respond. But for the record, let me say this: I make my patch available without any endorsement from the openssh developers or anyone else. I make it available simply because it provides the missing features and because I myself use it successfully and happily on the Linux servers I maintain at my work. If someone comes up with a better implementation of the patch, please be my guest. And if someone gets the functionality incorporated into the openssh code - all the better. But also for the record, I've had several satisfied people who download and use my patch. So there's people on both sides of the fence. Best thing to do in this situation is, if you feel comfortable using my patch, use it. Otherwise, don't. mike martinez -- Michael Martinez Linux System Administrator CSREES/ISTM/USDA mmartinez@csrees.usda.govReceived on Fri Jun 27 13:17:01 2003 This archive was generated by hypermail 2.1.8 : Wed Aug 23 2006 - 14:03:00 EDT |
