Where are you trying to ping?
I used sygate firewall once, even when it was disabled I found that it still blocked and filtered packets :/ I also had mcafee antivirus and I found that after installing a protocol or installing a new NIC the "inbuilt firewall" would "reconfigure winsock" as it put it, and I would have no network connectivity. Even ping returned a load of rubbish. Do you have the XP firewall installed on the interface?

hi all ..

i am using WIN XP and plan to install RHL 9.0 on the same machine. I have downloaded few tools to study them namely nmapwin , 3dtraceroute etc
but none of their queries them seem to go beyond the boundaries of my machine. There is a sygate software firewall on my PC even ping does't seem to work. the four queries are timed-out. Does anybody know the solution to this. I have even tried uninstalling the firewall.
