spamd and plugins

For a high-volume site, is there any reason to not be running spamc/spamd over amavisd/spamassassin? Specifically, can you use all of the various perl plugins (imageinfo, pdfinfo, botnet, etc...)? Are there any other tradeoffs to this configuration?
